Introduction to ADR driver training courses

Wellbeing courses - Belfast - Dunn Training Solutions - Blue trucks
Under the carriage of dangerous goods and use of transportable pressure equipment regulations, all drivers require training and instruction.

In Great Britain and Northern Ireland the ADR Vocational Training Certificate is obtained after a driver has attended an approved training course, and successfully completed an examination set and marked by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

As a minimum, the driver has to take the core section, the tanks or packages section, and one class section.

The examination papers are comprised of multiple-choice questions and a 70% pass mark is required. If a driver fails any of these, he may resit the examination at a later date.

Drivers who fall within this requirement are:

  • A road tanker containing any dangerous goods
  • A vehicle carrying a tank container loaded with dangerous goods
  • A vehicle carrying dangerous goods in bulk
  • A vehicle carrying dangerous goods in packages, over certain thresholds
